With the turn of a new year, it can only mean one thing. That’s right – it’s New Year’s resolution time! As your trusted Venice, Florida dermatologist, we at Wasserman Ulitsky Dermatology want to provide you with not just the tips and treatments for great skincare, but the encouragement to follow through on it as well. Since it’s just about time for making resolutions, why not use one of them on achieving healthier skin? And wouldn’t you know it – we have five suggestions that are certain to give your skin a radiant glow!
Drinking water is one of the most vital things you can do in keeping your skin healthy. When you drink water, you keep your skin hydrated. When your skin isn’t hydrated, your skin will become dry, flaky, and tight. This type of skin is less resilient and is more likely to develop wrinkles. It’s also important to note that much of the water will travel to your other organs or circulate out of your body before it reaches your skin, so make sure to spread out the water you consume throughout the day.
A good diet matters just as much in what you eat as what you don’t eat. Fruits and vegetables are the perfect choice to eat as they’re packed with the nutrients you need to give your skin a healthy glow. Other foods that are great for your skin include oatmeal, green tea, salmon, and dark chocolate. On the other hand, foods that are bad for your skin include sugary foods, processed foods, soda, and milk.
One of the worst things you can do to your skin is have interrupted or poor quality sleep. Poor sleep will show up on your skin through dark circles underneath your eyes, stress spots, fine lines, pimples or blemishes, and various other signs of premature aging. For the sake of your skin, it’s best to stick to a specific bedtime every night and try to get at least seven hours of sleep.
Another one of the harmful things you can do for your skin is to leave it exposed to sunlight. When you’re outside for prolonged periods of time, you’ll want to cover up in some way. This can be with a hat or other skin-covering clothing and it can also be by using sunscreen to make sure that you don’t suffer from any sunburns.
Exfoliation is all about removing the dry, dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface. By doing so, you’ll give your skin a more healthy and radiant glow. Depending on your skin type, it’s recommended to exfoliate between one to three times a week.
